Community Kickabout is a small-sided football session for Over 30’s and is part of our fitness initiative, organised by the TSC in partnership with Hemel Hempstead Town FC and supported by a Community Grant from Dacorum Borough Council. Continuing the successful return of Community Kickabout after the break for Lockdown, we were back at Vauxhall Road on Monday night for another football session. Thanks to everyone who participated, and again thanks to those who joined the stand-by list and were available to fill in for late withdrawals; apologies to those who registered for the stand-by list but didn’t get the opportunity to play this week, the sessions continue to gain popularity and we hope to be able to accommodate more players soon. Once again, we were also very thankful to Scott Daly for helping out by getting the players properly warmed up at the start of the session. Further to the government’s announcement on Saturday 19 December with regards to the introduction of Tier 4 areas and the latest information on COVID-19, The FA have issued the following update: Football for adult participants across ‘non-elite’ football in Tier 4 areas is not permitted, including all training and fixtures. Unfortunately, this means we have had to cancel the next Monday night Over 30’s football session scheduled for 21st December 2020. This is especially unfortunate as this festive session of our fitness initiative was going to raise money for DENS, the homeless charity for people in Dacorum. Our current aim is to resume as soon as possible once restrictions are lifted, and use that next session to raise money for DENS instead. Participants who paid for the upcoming Monday will receive an email offering them a refund or for their booking to be deferred to the next session. This session would have been our most attended yet, so we’re hopeful we can pick up where we leave off and resume with the same level of enthusiasm and popularity.
Our sessions take place on the main pitch at Hemel Hempstead Town FC, Vauxhall Road, which is FIFA Pro standard all-weather artificial grass; our matches are an easy, affordable (£6) and friendly opportunity for anyone to get active (not just TSC members or Hemel FC fans). The emphasis on these sessions is having fun! If this initiative is to succeed, then participants need to enjoy our sessions; in turn we’ll hopefully see continued participation and you’ll see an improvement in fitness.
The session is for people aged over 30 because cardiovascular disease in people aged between 30 and 74 in Dacorum is statistically significantly higher than the averages for England and Hertfordshire and around 50,000 residents aged 50 and above suffer from a long-term health problem or disability. Our aim is to encourage participation amongst our community; whilst this is an initiative of the Tudor Supporters Club, anyone is welcome to participate (albeit we will subsidise the costs for our members).
There is compulsory use of the correct footwear as directed by Hemel FC for their new artificial surface – Football Boots with moulded plastic studs are preferred. Please be aware that bladed boots of any description, metal studs, metal tipped studs and flat soled trainers are not permitted.
If you’re over 50 and feel that our small-sided football could be too strenuous but you’re still keen to get active, why not try Hemel FC’s Walking Football sessions! The sessions are held in a fun and friendly environment with a warmup, training games and a cool down – everything is done in a professional manner! The club run two training sessions each week at the football club in Vauxhall Road, Monday’s: 12:30pm – 1:30pm, and Thursday’s: 6:00pm – 7:00pm. Click here for more details.
